TODAY’S TOP NEWS

Bitcoin Hits The Strip

Block kicked off real-time bitcoin payments via Square at Bitcoin 2025 in Vegas, letting attendees buy merch instantly using the Lightning Network — a move aimed at making BTC “everyday money.”

The pilot builds on Block’s Bitcoin Conversions tool and is set to roll out to eligible Square sellers by 2026, pending regulatory approval. Merchants can either hold the bitcoin or auto-convert to USD with no exposure risk.

Block’s strategy focuses on giving small and mid-sized merchants a full suite of bitcoin tools — from point-of-sale payments to self-custody. CEO Jack Dorsey’s crew wants bitcoin to do more than just moon — they want it to move.

Musk Slams Trump’s Bill

📉 Musk called out Trump’s “big, beautiful bill” for being anything but budget-friendly, criticizing it for adding trillions to the deficit and undermining DOGE’s cost-cutting efforts. He joked, “A bill can be big or beautiful, but not both.”

🧾 DOGE, led by Musk, claimed to have saved $170B by slashing government waste, including mass layoffs and agency cuts. But the new spending bill is projected to balloon the deficit by $3.8T over a decade, according to the CBO.

🚫 Despite previously being a White House regular, Musk is stepping back from DOGE to focus on Tesla, SpaceX, and X. He noted government inefficiency was “worse than I realized” and said DOGE had become an unpopular scapegoat.
